Genie Marks 60 Years With the S-85 XC FE Boom Lift and a Next-Generation GS Scissor Family

Genie is 60 years old. The aerial work platform brand, founded by Bud Bushnell in September 1966 and owned by Terex Corporation since 2002, is marking the anniversary throughout 2026, and it used the back-to-back ARA Show in Orlando (March 2 to 4) and CONEXPO in Las Vegas (March 3 to 7) to show what comes next.

"This year we will celebrate an incredible milestone, Genie's 60th anniversary," said Genie President Josh Gross.

What Was New

At The ARA Show, Genie debuted Genie Recon, a factory reconditioning business, with a reconditioned S-65 boom lift on the stand, along with new Genie 360 digital service management features for fleet owners.

At CONEXPO, the company showed the S-85 XC FE boom lift with powertrain improvements and a model from its next-generation GS scissor lift family. The S-85 XC FE and E models carry more than 80 quality improvements aimed at reducing maintenance, which Genie says lowers total cost of ownership by 15 percent on the electric machines and 6 percent on the hybrid FE units.

"Through our commitment to quality by design, Genie equipment delivers a low total cost of ownership," said Dominik Damm, Genie's Director of Product Management.

Why Reconditioning Matters

Genie Recon is the interesting one for fleet owners. A factory reconditioning program means Genie is putting its own name on second-life machines, with OEM parts and factory standards, rather than leaving that market entirely to third-party rebuilders. For rental fleets and contractors weighing a rebuilt S-65 against a new unit, it creates a middle option with a warranty behind it.

It also reinforces a point we make often: the parts that go into a machine matter. Whether a boom lift is new, reconditioned, or ten years into service, genuine OEM parts are what keep it on the job and off the incident report.
